Questions, Reports, and Discussion Guide

In a board-led organization, board members are trustees on behalf of the owners’ interests. To fulfill their responsibilities it is important that the board members are aware of the expectations the owners have of the organization.

One effective way to appreciate the breadth of owner perspectives is to talk to some of the owners (members, shareholders, stakeholders) and ask them to share their thoughts.

Sample Questions to Ask Owners
  • What do you expect from this organization?
  • What are your dreams for this organization?
  • What should this organization accomplish to have a successful year?
  • What do you think is the most important issue for the organization to address in the next year?
  • What factors should be considered when making a decision on this issue?
  • What do you believe would be the best decision and why?
  • What recent organizational success do you appreciate most?
  • What changes would you like to see the organization make?
