This is the collated feedback from the 8 board members who contacted some of our owners (supporting members and prominent community members) during September 2006 to learn more about their expectations for ABC County Park System.
What do you expect from this organization?
- income exceeds expenses every year
- annual increase in number of clients served
- provide access to a variety of users
- keep me informed about what they do
- offer accessible recreation and educational programs that increase appreciation of our natural resources
- models stewardship of our natural resources
- an opportunity to volunteer in a meaningful way
- uses my expertise in fund raising
- a public park in every town and township in the county
- pays its staff well for the hard work they do
- clean, well-serviced parks
- is accessible to people all across the county
What are your dreams for this organization?
- everyone in the community knows the park system exists and uses it
- has a 1-800 office number for easy access
- number of people served doubles in next 5 years
- establishment of an endowment that grows to one million dollars
- offers a pre-school, elementary school, high school, and adult program at some location every day of the year
- has an annual family festival which is fun for the community, raises money, and increases awareness of the organization’s work
- is the first stop for local people wanting to learn about nature
- has enough money to serve everyone who requests a nature education program
- people appreciate the park system so much that the parking lots are full every weekend
- has a labeled arboretum of native tree species
What should this organization accomplish to consider that it has had a successful year?
- delivered programs to half the eligible people
- have a year end cash surplus of $25,000
- add quality staff so it can offer more services
- introduced an MP3 communication tool to advise the community of its activities
- offer more courses on home gardening and landscaping
- completed a win/win merger with XYZ City Parks
- double the number of programs provided
- better cross-section of programs available across the county; offering programs for all ages at all parks
- don’t know enough about the organization to make a suggestion
- no ideas
- extending hours of service; finding more qualified volunteers to lead programs and guide visitors; having staff on site from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in summer months; 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in winter months

- some stand-alone activities that people can do whenever they stop at the park

- ensure there is a quality Executive Director; current man is harsh with employees and park visitors, he doesn’t listen to concerns, the small parks are not well kept
- get rid of the current Executive Director and replace him with someone with quality park work experience
What recent organizational success do you appreciate most?
- not aware of any recent organizational accomplishments
- opening of a greenhouse for warm climate plants
- kids’ monthly nature craft
- the new picnic shelter at Park Place
- don’t know what the organization has done
- Saturday morning nature club
- has attracted high school students who need a place to provide community service
- summer week long day camp program
What changes would you like to see the organization make?
- offer a beginning gardeners’ educational program annually
- deliver nature programs in inner-city parks
- work with the community to establish parks near Pleasant Valley Mall and Sunset View Elementary School
- establish a year-round mini-zoo with several native animal species on display
- why change a great thing
- be recognized by the courts as a place that minor juvenile offenders can serve community service hours
- no changes necessary
- offer more and more varied educational programs on native plant species
